uzbekistan goes silent

Thanks to the usenet poster who mentioned that Radio Tashkent International from Uzbekistan discontinued its shortwave broadcasts. Although I never received this station, I cringe at the news of a shortwave station going off the air in favor of internet broadcasting. All shortwave listeners fear this, because the cost of internet broadcasting is believed to be lower than the cost of shortwave broadcasting.

Radio Tashkent's current letters review page discusses the issue in more detail. (I will need to update this URL to an archive link at a future date.)
