upcoming radio reviews

Are there any radios in particular that you'd like to see reviewed here?

Do you know anyone who can receive 5.070 MHz with clarity on the West Coast starting at about 5:00 P.M. ? If so, what kind of radio do they use? I can barely hear that frequency sometimes. I am using a hand crank emergency Radio Shack radio, with a wire antenna attached to the teloscopic. Thanks

Ok this is the Radio I was going to test out at Radio Shack. Are there Radios with better SW reception for the same or lower price? Thanks again.....

Grundig S350 AM/FM Shortwave Radio

I've heard that the S350 is good for AM and FM, and maybe average for shortwave. Have you considered the Kaito 1102 and 1103 radios? They're under $100 and are dual-conversion radios (which provides more reliable reception), digitally tuned (which means the tuner won't drift), and get great shortwave reception.

Radio Shack doesn't carry those but many mailorder places offer good prices on these (radio showcase, radios4you, universal radio). Also, the Chinese versions of these radios (under the Degen brand) are available on eBay - but you'll have to search for the model number rather than the brand, as in DE1102 and DE1103.

I haven't tried 5070 khz and don't know anything about WWCR.

Thanks for the tip. Yes, I am basically looking for the best shortwave reception that I can find hopefully within a 100 bucks. I have not heard of the Kaito 1102 or 1103 yet, so I look forward to checking them out. Anyhow, try 5070 khz at 5:00 P.M. Sat. or 7:00 P.M. Sun. If Texe Marrs' show is on the air, you will be greatly entertained. He is a bit "out there", but raises many great questions. If you have good results, let me know, please! Thanks for your help!

I'm on the East Coast and get 5070 well. If you're interested I have a Radio Shack DX-399 compact Digital SW receiver for $20 and $8 S&H, that I'm selling.
I think that would do the job for you, I don't see why WWCR/5070 wouldn't come in well on the West coast(I'm listening now).

Sorry it took me so long to reply. WWCR broadcasts on 5.070 out of Nashville, which is why it probably comes in fine on the east coast. It fades in and out pretty bad here on the west coast with a lot of background noise using the radio I am currently using. I would like to buy your dx-399 radio if someone here on the west coast can hear this station at the dates and times described using the same radio. Does it have an antenna jack? How does the reception compare to the emergency crank radios? -Thanks
